A prelude to the biggest Hinglish play of all times – Begum Sahiba

A GREAT STORY AN UNBELIEVABLE CLIMAX NEVER STAGED IN THE 350 YEAR HISTORY OF THEATRE AN IMPRESSIVE STAR CAST THE BEST IN BOLLYWOOD INVOLVING THEMSELVES IN SINGING, MUSIC DIRECTION & LYRICS

Begum Sahiba - the biggest Hinglish play of all times is slated for its premiere staging on 7th November, 2009 in Mumbai. It has four stage shows in the calendar month of November in Mumbai at premier theatre Rang Sharda.

A small press invitation to a rehearsal resulted in Begum Sahiba getting huge positive publicity in the electronic & print media – which is evident on the internet even today. A much huger response is anticipated to the shooting of the cinematography of Begum Sahiba recently concluded.

This is indication in itself of the huge potential Begum Sahiba has in store in its journey to success. The reason for Begum Sahiba defying all theatre norms of extensive premature bookings lies for varied reasons in store.

There are stories & stories, but only a handful of them remain eternally embedded in you. Begum Sahiba promises to be just that. In a little over two hours you will be enchanted with exotic sets, melodious music, romance, comedy, deceit, homo-sexuality (the play has been granted a “U” certificate), crime & an unheard of, never seen before climax.

The play revolves around yesteryear super-star Chandini (Poonam Dasgupta) who fell in love with Abdullah (Rahul Roy) an Arab prince. Abdullah fondly called her his ‘Begum Sahiba’. She gave up her stardom for him. Destiny had in store that Abdullah died in an accident in their short lived romance & matrimony. Begum Sahiba became a recluse & never returned to her famed career.

Her gay secretary (Zaraa Ishnava – India’s first transvestite) appeases Begum Sahiba to overcome her sorrow & loneliness with comedy & dance with his/her gay friends. Raj (Raj Premi) a pimp supplying gigolos to Mumbai’s high society sees a potential in exploiting Begum Sahiba’s loneliness & introduces her to his prized gigolo Rahul (Rahul Roy’s double role). Unaware of Rahul’s infamous profession & the uncanny semblance to Abdullah, Rahul gets Begum Sahiba out of her shell to fall in love with him. Seeing this romance bloom Raj dreams of the fortunes now in store if Begum Sahiba is to will her vast fortunes to Rahul & somehow die. Rahul does not agree to Raj’s criminal intentions & leaves both Raj & Begum Sahiba forever.

But, Raj is not the kind of man to give up. He still nearly succeeds ………………….. but how can this ever be possible with Rahul gone? You can keep guessing ………….……. for this will happen right in front of your eyes. The only way to see this unbelievable climax is to see the play or ……….. when we narrate the unbelievable climax never staged in the history of theatre to you. That is the only way to possibly know the twist in the tale!

AN IMPRESSIVE STAR CAST
RAHUL ROYH is debut in theatre. Undoubtedly, Mahesh Bhatt’s most successful find. After being a super-model, Rahul entered Bollywood in 1990 with the super-hit film ‘Aashiqui’. Since then he has delighted us with over 65 films. Rahul went on to win the first episode of the popular reality show – Big Boss. Begum Sahiba is Rahul’s first shot at theatre. As Rahul puts it “My first movie was a super hit. I was a winner in my debut on television. God willing, my first ever experience with theatre will be just the same; for Begum Sahiba has got everything laid out for success”.

Hindu's don't accept him in their culture and Muslims boycotted him since he was brought up by a Hindu.
